HUSK 101: HOW TO DRINK WHITE RUM

Juice rum production began in the French Caribbean and the most celebrated island for it is Martinique.  In those islands, juice rum is commonly known as Agricole rum which translates to agricultural rum in English, and again shows the strong link between the product, the cane, the land it came from, the farmers and the distillers. Martinique perfected the art of making Agricole rum so well over the past 100+ years that it gained its own AOC, the official appellation usually protecting the use of the famous alcoholic drink names such as Cognac or Champagne. A world first for rum.

We’ve created a spirit that is well suited to the Australian palate but that remains true to its origins and traditional bold flavour.

To make the most of your rum tasting experience, we suggest you take an initial small sip of Husk Rum, just enough to coat your mouth.  Swirl it briefly, mouth closed, then swallow.  Enjoy your spirit with small sips and the initial explosion of flavours in your mouth will slowly attenuate to let you fully appreciate the product.

If drinking rum neat isn’t your thing, you can add some ice, a squeeze of lime and some mixer for a refreshing beverage.

Pure Cane is an unaged rum also called Cane Spirit in Australia, that is crisp and youthful and full of herbaceous and grassy notes with citrus and fruit aromas. It is the ideal base for a wide range of rum based cocktails especially daiquiris, mojitos and caipirinhas. Quentin says “but being French-Caribbean, I recommend Ti Punch. It’s short, punchy, flavourful and to the point.”

Quentin suggests the spices in Bam Bam compliment an already beautifully aged rum, therefore it can truly be enjoyed neat or on the rocks and is really versatile in cocktails.

Husk Botanic features notes of grapefruit, native lemon myrtle and native strawberry gum leaves. Try it with tonic water and a slice of grapefruit, and even a discerning gin drinker will see the rummier side of life.
