The Perfect Daytrip in the Tweed 2026
A picture-perfect day around the Tweed with food, spirits, beach and bliss
If you’re planning a relaxed, unforgettable day in the Tweed region, we’ve pulled together an itinerary that is literally how we would spend our weekend: local vibes, scenic rides, world-class spirits and of course capped off with a perfect sunset. From breakfast by the river to cocktails by the coast, read on for the ultimate day out.
Itinerary:
8:00 am - Breakfast and shopping on Bay Street (162 Chinderah Bay Drive, Chinderah)
Start with a coffee from Sun Devil, then browse the vintage racks inside Strange Days. Wander down Bay Street for a pastry from Bread Social, then duck around the corner to Badlands Record Store.
10am - Hire Bikes & Ride the Northern Rivers Rail Trail
After breakfast, take a scenic drive into the Tweed Valley to hire bikes with Better By Bike (based at Murwillumbah Railway Station) and spend the morning riding the Rail Trail through lush hinterland.
This trail is about 24km each way, passing through rainforest, historic tunnels (one is 524 m long!) and countryside views. If you’re bringing your own bike, bring a torch!
1pm - Long Country Lunch & Spirits Tasting at Husk Farm Distillery
Once you’ve earned it, head to Husk Farm Distillery for our Tasting Trail Tour - a welcome drink on arrival, seven guided tastings across Ink Gin and Husk Rum, a behind-the-scenes look at Australia’s only working farm distillery, and a long, relaxed lunch overlooking the cane fields. Finish with a cocktail and let the afternoon stretch out on the lawn.
4pm - Afternoon Swim at Cabarita Beach
Post-lunch, head to Cabarita Beach for an afternoon swim. The ocean air and a salty swim is the perfect reset after a morning ride and long lunch.
5:30 pm - Sunset from the Headland
Finish the day with fish & chips from The Stunned Mullet, watching the sunset from the headland at Cabarita. With the sky turning gold over the ocean, it’s the perfect end to your daytrip to the Tweed.
